The Divine Founder of the Bahá’í Faith, Bahá’u’lláh (meaning Glory of God), was misunderstood and persecuted, tortured and exiled from His homeland by clergy and government. He and His family suffered through a series of difficult forced exiles through multiple countries. In the terrible heat of August 31, 1868, they, and a small group of faithful Bahá’ís, arrived at the prison in Akka, Palestine.

“Confined to a prison for more than two years, He and His companions were later moved to a cramped house within the city's walls. Little by little, the moral character of the Bahá’ís—particularly Bahá’u’lláh’s eldest son, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá—softened the hearts of their jailers, and penetrated the bigotry and indifference of ‘Akká’s residents. As in Baghdad and Adrianople, the nobility of Bahá’u’lláh’s character gradually won the admiration of the community at large, including some of its leaders.” from Bahai.org

Since the power of God was assisting Bahá’u’lláh, the Divine Manifestation of God, the Faith continued to grow despite all efforts to stop it. It is now the most widespread religion on earth, after Christianity. Everyone is warmly invited to investigate how this Faith uplifts souls and families, and builds unified, strong communities around the world.

The Portland, Beaverton, and Vancouver Bahá'í Centers each host Sunday in-person devotional gatherings, with readings from many Faiths. There are virtual and in-person gatherings for study and prayer throughout the week. You are warmly invited to all these public activities! No donations accepted, you are our guest.
